Mae Ellen Gift, 96, of Fort Scott, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 28, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott. She was born October 11, 1919 in Arcadia, Kansas the daughter of Fred Allen and Lydia Ellen (Stroud) Large. She married Charles Arthur Gift September 1, 1940 in Centerville, Kansas, and he preceded her in death January 3, 2013.
Mae Ellen lived in Bourbon County all of her life, graduating from Fort Scott High School. She was a homemaker, a school bus driver for nine years, and a saw operator for Peerless for eighteen years. She was a member of the Hiattville United Methodist Church, and the Hiattville Ideal Chapter O.E.S.
Survivors include her daughters, Donna Sue Endicott, and Sandra Kay Wheeler, both of Girard, Kansas; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Charles, Mae Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, and as the last of nine children, she was also preceded in death by four brothers, Clyde T. Large, James L. Large, Charles A. Large, and Vern Large; three sisters, Nina L. Large, Clara B. Crystal, and Laureta Curtis, and an infant brother Everett Large.
Rev. Marty DeWitt will conduct funeral services for Mae Ellen at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home with burial following at the Large (Pleasantview) Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hiattville United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund and left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W.
