Pastor Jon Henderson, will conduct Graveside services at 10:00 a.m. Thursday May 19, 2016 at the Fort Scott National Cemetery under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Opal Maxine Brillhart, 81, of Fort Scott, died Sunday morning, May 15, 2016 at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. She was born November 2, 1934 in Walnut, Kansas the daughter of Charles Oscar and Grace Olive (Boileau) Cowan. She married Eddie Lee Brillhart September 12, 1956 in Mapleton, Kansas and he survives of the home.
Opal was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother, who took great pride in her family. Opal loved to knit and gift her handmade quilts to her family and friends. Any time you would stop to visit, Granny Opal would have a plate of her famous homemade chocolate chip cookies. She loved her flowers, watching the birds and feeding all the neighborhood cats. She was devoted to her husband and family. She held various secretarial positions over fifty years. She and Ed enjoyed traveling and camping. She was a graduate of Blue Mound High School, and had been a resident of Fort Scott since 1968. Opal was a strong believer in Jesus Christ and attended several churches in Fort Scott.
In addition to her husband, Ed, Opal is survived by her three sons, Michael L. Brillhart and wife Peggy, Wheatland, WY; Mark Brillhart and wife Diane, Fort Scott, KS; and Matthew Brillhart and wife Teresa, Independence, MO; ten grandchildren, Jennifer Brillhart, Brooke Campbell, Brianne Brillhart, Megan Brillhart, Cameron Brillhart, Kate Sears, Caryn Hampton, Clayton Brillhart, Hadley Brillhart and Ivy Brillhart; and eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Cowan and wife Norma, Nevada, MO; three sisters Mary Dahmer, Nevada, MO; Charlene Bruns and Pauline Norris, all of Fort Scott.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Floyd Cowan; three sisters, Metta Walker, Ruth Walker and Irmal Smith.
Her brother-in-law, Rev. Jon Henderson, will conduct Graveside services at 10:00 a.m. Thursday May 19, 2016 at the Fort Scott National Cemetery under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
