Mary Nelle Beth, 97 of Fort Scott, died Sunday evening, August 16, 2015 at the Guest Home Estates. She was born February 24, 1918 in Fort Scott, Kansas the daughter of Alex and Christina (Wiley) Mason. She married Glen Merdith Beth August 5, 1939 in Fort Scott, and he preceded her in death June 9, 2006.

Mary Nelle was a lifelong resident of Fort Scott. She graduated from Fort Scott High School and later received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Pittsburg State University. She taught school for USD234 and starting in one-room school houses including Fort Lincoln School. After forty-two years of teaching, she retired from Winfield Scott. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Order of the Eastern Star, and NEA.

Mary Nelle is survived by her son, Alec Beth and wife Anne of Fort Scott; one granddaughter, Amy Hixon and husband David of Fort Scott; and five great-grandchildren, Aubrey Zillner, Addison Oberley, Blake Hixon, Colton Hixon, and Cade Hixon. In addition to her husband Glen, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Charles Mason, and four sisters, Edna Golladay, Gladys Mason, Helen Golladay, and Agnes Adams.

Rev. Jared Witt will conduct graveside services 11:00 a.m. Friday morning, August 21, 2015 at the West Liberty Cemetery under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. for a brief visitation and will leave for the cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be emailed to [email protected]
