Rex Warren Wheeler, 72, of Fort Scott, died Tuesday afternoon, March 7, 2017, at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City. He was born March 20, 1944, in Hiattville, Kansas the son of Warren Fay and Dorothy Lorene (Barker) Wheeler. He married Lynne Hubert Sutton March 12, 1994 in Fort Scott, Kansas, and she survives of the home.

Rex was a Master Electrician, owning and operating Wheeler Electric, Inc. for 48 years.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Rising Sun Lodge #8 AF & AM, Fort Scott Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Mirza Shrine Temple in Pittsburg, Kansas.

In addition to his wife Lynne, Rex is also survived by his children, Yvette Pue and husband Steve of Orlando, Florida, R. W. Wheeler II, and wife Keisha of Lino Lakes, Minnesota; Step-son Scott Sutton and wife Sara of Uniontown, Kansas; two brothers, Fletcher Wheeler and wife Kay of Fort Scott, and Jerry Wheeler and wife Phyllis of Onamia, Minnesota; two sisters, Shirley Burcham of Fort Scott, and Cyndie Post, also of Fort Scott; and seven grandchildren, Nicole Pue, Joshua Wheeler, Jocelyn Wheeler, R.W. Wheeler “Rex” III, McKinley Sutton, Marley Jo Sutton, and Tucker Sutton. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Joshua Wheeler, a nephew, Greg Post, and a brother-in-law, Bob Burcham.

Following cremation, Rev. Jared Witt will conduct funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church with interment following at the Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday evening March 10, 2017 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Fort Scott High School Wrestling or Care to Share and left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall Street, PO Box 309, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
