Ruth Ella Koester, 85, of Fort Scott, died Tuesday morning, March 14, 2017 at her home. She was born February 9, 1932 in Arcadia, Kansas, the daughter of Oliver Ewing and Laura Afton (Perrin) Hoover. She married Harold Dean Koester December 24, 1952 in Wichita, Kansas, and he preceded her in death February 10, 2014.

Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Kara Koester, of Fort Scott, Kansas, and Kristyn Wohler of Independence, Missouri; three sisters, Marie Marshall of Fort Scott, Retha Gries, of Cullowhee, North Carolina, and Forrestine Hoover, of Fort Scott; and three grandchildren, Chase Koester, Bryce Koester, and Roslyn Wohler. In addition to her husband Harold, Ruth was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Kenneth Harold “Kenny” Koester; three brothers, Harold Hoover, Ralph Hoover, and Eldon Hoover; and three sisters, Verreta Stump, Velma Morris, and Ruby Hoover.

Vicar Apfel will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017, at the Trinity Lutheran Church with burial following at the Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or Mercy Hospice and left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall Street, PO Box 309, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
